Uji flies parasiting on a silk worm

Summary edit

Description
English: This is a picture of a dead silkworm caterpillar and two dead imago of uji fly, next to an open silk cocoon. The larvae of uji fly had been living inside the silkworm until it made a cocoon. After the cocoon was finished, uji fly larvae emerged from the caterpillar killing it. Because the cocoon of domestic silkworms is much thicker than that of wild ones, uji fly larvae could not pierce it and escape. Instead, they turned into pupae inside the cocoon, next to the dead silkworm. The imago of uji fly died inside, unable to mate and lay eggs.
