Summary edit
DescriptionUlc exterior test frame storage.jpg |
English: ULC exterior fire test frame storage. The horizontal frame is 5' x 10', used to hold horizontal test samples for the 4x9. The blue frames are for 5'x5' firestop wall openings in the wall panel test furnace. This narrows down the normal 10'x10' test sample size for a lower cost. The full scale panel furnace cannot be used for firestop tests because there is a column in the way of the 3' of penetrant sticking out of the unexposed side of the test sample per ULC-S115 or ASTM E814 or UL 1479. These penetrants would bump into the column on the way from the burn to the hose stream area by the overhead door. Dismounting the test sample from the rail, hooking it up to the furnace and then carrying it to the overhead door for the hose stream test takes too long and would violate the standards. By using the smaller 5'x5' frames, the sample sits inside the normal test frame and is rolled back and forth and around on casters. This procedure does not take into account the deflection experienced through the heating of metal studs on 10' tall framed walls, as in a normal 100ft² sample. |
