Summary edit

Description
English: This drawing gives a picturesque image of the old markets of Nantes and the world of the fishmongers. Contrary to appearances, in the 19th century, the sale of fish in Nantes was highly regulated and could only be carried out at the Poissonnerie on Feydeau Island. The painter represents here a scene that he probably observed there and transposes it into an architecture that remains difficult to identify. It may be the Feltre market, the former canvas market, which stood on rue de l'Arche-Sèche.
