Une monnaie en argent, un tétradrachme, du royaume indo-scythe et en particulier du roi Azès II qui pourrait avoir régné sur une partie de la région allant de l’Afghanistan au Pakistan jusqu’à une partie de l’Inde du Nord. Les Indo-Scythes font partie des Saces et sont parfois appelés Sakas. A/ BAΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΝ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ ΑΖΟΥ (roi des rois très grand Azès) Roi cavalier vers la droite, tenant un fouet dans la main droite levée. Derrière lui, un arc dans son fourreau. Devant le cheval, une lettre grecque Ό. R/ Légende en kharoshthi : maharajasa rajarajasa mahatasa ayasa (roi des rois très grand Azès) Athéna debout à droite fait un geste de la main droite et tient un bouclier et une lance de la main gauche. Devant Athéna, un symbole ; derrière la lettre grecque A et une autre lettre dans un alphabet inconnu. Dimensions : 25,01 mm – 23,15 mm Poids : 9,37 g Atelier de Taxila Sirsukh Référence : MACW 2350 (Mitchiner Ancient & Classical World) Remarque : La chronologie de ce royaume n’est pas établie avec certitude. Beaucoup de chercheurs parlent de deux souverains homonymes au nom d’Azès. Leur dynastie va durer du 1er siècle avant notre ère jusqu’au 1er siècle de notre ère. Le premier souverain semble être Mauès. Il remplace les dynasties indo-grecques et le royaume indo-scythe est remplacé par le royaume indo-parthe. |
