| Description |
English: Underpass beneath the A337 connecting Spaniards Hole to Whitley Wood, New Forest. This ominously dark hole is the underpass that connects the open woodland on either side of the A337 between Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst. The main road has been fenced and gridded since the 1960s (?) to prevent accidents involving commoners' stock, and the underpass is primarily intended to allow these ponies etc. to wander freely. The wild deer that live in these woods are agile enough to jump the fences, and many are killed on the road each year. |
