Summary

Description
English: Union Depot Site

Built in 1853, the rail depot that stood before "Sherman's March," had a simple iron-arched roof on walls of brick arches. During the Civil War, Atlanta's excellent rail connection made it the supply depot, manufacturing center, and hospital distribution point for Confederate soldiers. In 1864 the station (and most of the city) was destroyed by Federal troops. A larger station was built in 1871, but was demolished in 1930.
