This ex-Continental 737 is taxiing out of the westside United maintenance hangars (formerly Continental maintenance) to head for the gate. It will soon operate United 3 to Honolulu; United offers more Hawaii departures from Los Angeles than any other airline, especially now that Continental's Hawaii services are also part of the United schedule. The westside United hangars service Continental aircraft, while the eastside United hangars service legacy United aircraft. 30 November 2011 marked a milestone in the United-Continental merger, where the two airlines operate under a single Air Operating Certificate. Although it is the old Continental's certificate, the name, and the air traffic control callsign, are United. Continental now no longer exists as a separate airline, even though Continental Airlines' separate pilot union contract and reservation system still remain.
