English: The Day of the Dead is one of Mexico's better-known traditions. A mixture of several pre-Hispanic cultures' rituals to honor the dead and Catholic ceremonies, the modern interpretation of the holiday relies heavily on skeleton imagery inspired on the work of Guanajuato-based artist José Guadalupe Posada.
Español: El Día de Muertos es una de las tradiciones mexicanas más conocidas. Una mezcla de varios rituales prehispánicos que honraban a los muertos y ceremonias católicas, la interpretación moderna de la celebración depende en gran parte de representaciones de esqueletos inspiradas en la obra del artista José Guadalupe Posada, quien trabajó en Guanajuato. |
