Deutsch: Flache, stark verkarstete, bedeutsame, Landschaft der Mittleren Kuppenalb (Schwäbische Alb). Die Schneise zwischen den beiden Wäldern hinten und auch die Senke im Vordergrund sind das Trockental „Höhlental“ (ca. 740 m N.N.). In diesem Trockental floss im Pleistozän eine Ur-Erpf. Noch früher, im Pliozän, floss eine Ur-Erpf - weit höher - durch die heute trockene Flusshöhle „Bären- und Karlshöhle“. Die geologisch-paläontologisch sehr bedeutende Höhle, die auf ein Gesamtalter von ca. fünf Millionen Jahren geschätzt wird, liegt heute in 800 m N.N. auf der Anhöhe „Hölltal“ (rechts hinter dem Baum). English: Flat landscape of the karstic Middle Swabian Alb. The depression in the foreground, as well as the section between the two woodlands in the background are the dry valley of a pleistocene “Ur-Erpf”. The karst spring of the contemporary Erpf is ca. 3 km further down. An even older, pliocene Ur-Erpf passed right through a phreatic cave “Bären- und Karlshöhle”, which is now totally dry and 60 m above the dry valley. Excavations in this cave are of great geological and paleontological importance; its age is assessed to be ca. five million years. |
