English: The Urfa Statue is the oldest known, life-sized statue to have survived intact into the present. It was unearthed in the mid-1990s, below the Old City of Urfa, just to the north of Balıklığöl, in the area of a large Pre-Pottery Neolithic settlement. The existence of this settlement is testified by observations of so-called “terrazzo floors” belonging to Pre-Pottery Neolithic houses and characteristic flint tools from this period.
The limestone statue stands 1.80 metres tall and has large eye sockets which are filled with black obsidian eyes. The statue is depicted with hands folded in front and naked, except for the V-shaped lines resembling a necklace. The lower section of the statue has been sculpted as a U-form, so as to fit into a socket. There are some images of the statue in the category Şanlıurfa Museum Paleolithic Age Hall, I claim that is wrong as the Pre-Pottery Neolithic was after that period, to the best of my knowledge and according to what I find in the Wikipedia itself.
