Description
Svenska: Västerport (även kallad för Högvakten) blev huvudinfarten till det nya Kalmar som uppfördes på 1600-talet på Kvarnholmen, efter att man hade övergett den gamla medeltidsstaden intill Kalmar slott. Porten som låg invid "Systraströmmen (namngiven efter systrakonventet i dominikanorden som fanns i Kalmar, jämsides med brödrakonventet inom samma orden. I slutet av medeltiden flyttade dock systrarna till konventet i Skänninge)" uppfördes i huvudsak på 1650-talet i renässansmässig stil efter ritningar av Johan Wärnschiöld. På varsin sida av Västerport ligger de två kraftiga bastionerna Gustavus Primus (på höger sida sedd från Kvarnholmen) och Gustavus Magnus (på vänster sida sedd från Kvarnholmen). På andra sidan Systraströmmen fanns ravelinen Prins Carl, på vars plats senare byggdes länsfängelset.
