Description
English: 2nd Lt. Olivia Gillingham, 2nd Space Launch Squadron acquisitions manager and the first United States Space Force member assigned to Vandenberg Air Force Base, reads the Oath of Office to new Space Force officers during the United States Space Force Induction Ceremony Sept. 1, 2020, at Vandenberg AFB, Calif. As the newest branch of U.S. military service, the USSF aims to maintain the upper hand of space, while also adapting to new challenges that brings. Upon the creation of the USSF, many Air Force personnel in space-related career fields were offered the opportunity to transfer into the Space Force, becoming some of the first Space Force service members. The newly commissioned members joined Gen. Jay Raymond, U.S. Space Force Chief of Space Operations and commander of U.S. Space Command, Chief Master Sgt. Roger A. Towberman, U.S. Space Force Senior Enlisted Advisor, and 86 U.S. Air Force Academy graduates as official members of the USSF. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Brittany E. N. Murphy)
