English: In the audience room the prior received his visitors, who must have been numerous, since this order owned large amounts of property as a consequence of royal and private grants, as well as thos from other organizations, all of which implied frequent contact with functionaries, administrators, farmers, etc.
In the central showcase there is a Bill of Change dated 1834. Several books of Rámon Llull, one of them an early period incunabul. A book of accounts, written in Mallorquín, various Carthusian books, astronomy texts, some other incunabula (printed before 1505), bulls of Antipope Benedict XIII, royal letters of Philip IV conceding exemption from taxes for the monastery's properties are house here. Furniture in the Mallorca stye, in the showcase a sketch of the sculptured "La Pietá" group of the church retable and the prior's chair. Among the paintings, the following stand out: a Bassano representing the "Flight of the Israelities from Egypt", "Martyrdom of Saint Stephen" by Lucas, "Saint Andrew" painted by Francisco de Herrera, with the foot of the effigy always turning in the direction of the viewer of the canvas, a small painting from the school of El Greco, and on the easel a "Saint bruno", who is the founder of the Carthusian order. |
