Text Appearing Before Image: pecial interest. InEgypt the boar was the demon Set, and the black pigis the devil in Wales and Scotland, and also in a layer of Irish mythology. Hatred of pork prevailed in Egyptand its vicinity, and still lingers in parts of Ireland andWales, but especially in the Scottish Highlands. TheGauls, like the Aryans of India, did not regard the boaras a demon, and they ate pork freely, as did also theAchaeans and the Germanic peoples. Roast pig is pro-vided in Valhal and in the Irish Danann Paradise, but theIrish devil, Balor, who resembles the Asura king ofIndia, had a herd of black pigs. The struggle between Kshatriyas and Brahmans isreflected in Vishnus incarnation as Parasu-rama (Ramawith the axe). He clears the earth twenty-one times ofthe visible Kshatriyas, but on each occasion a few surviveto perpetuate the caste. Jagannath^ is also regarded as a form of Vishnu,although apparently not of Brahmanic origin. He isrepresented by three forms, representing the dark Krishna, ^ Juggernaut.
