Summary edit

Description
English: This comparison shows the impact of the depth of field on the reflection through a mirror surface and through a diffuse surface in a picture.
  • First finding : On a mirror surface (A and B), the image reflected is not changed by the focus. At f/2,8, the words are as sharp as at f/32. Only the coins get blurred, due to the distance.
  • Second finding : The diffuse surface has a serious impact on the level of blurriness of the reflected image. At f/2,8, when the mirror is not perfect (C vs A), the reflection gets blurred, showing an aspect similar to the blurred coins of the foreground.
  • Third finding : With a diffuse surface, the sharpness of the reflected image gets improved when we increase the depth of field (D vs C). There are more visible details at f/32 than at f/2,8. It's not as good as with a mirror surface (B vs D) but much finer than with a shallow depth of field.
