Molds are a type of fungi characterized by filamentous hyphae that form a visible mass called a mycelium. Mold growth can appear as fuzzy, cotton-like, or powdery structures on surfaces. Yeasts are unicellular fungi that typically form smooth, creamy, or pasty colonies. In liquid cultures, yeast cells may cause the medium to become turbid, and gas production can lead to bubbling. Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a well-known yeast used in bread making and brewing. |
