Description
English: The famous temples at Belur and Halebidu are known for their intricate sculptures, this ornate BELAVADI VEERANARAYANA TEMPLE with its ’Trikutachala’ (three shrined) structure, dedicated to Veeranarayana (in the center facing East), Mesmerizing Venugopala (considered as one of the best Krishna's sculptures in the world - facing North) and Yoganarasimha (facing South) was built around 1200 CE by King Veera Ballala II of Hoysala Empire.

The entrance to the temple is majestic and two carved elephants on either side of the gateway welcomes us and we were greeted by silence, serene atmosphere. We were not surprised on that we were the lone vistors in the temple. This temple is known for its architecture, beautiful bell shaped pillars and well decorated roofing. This is a ‘living’ temple, where worship has been carried out continuously for more than the last 800 years. Because of its remote location, this magnificent temple was spared the vandalism done in many Hoysala temples of this region by Islamic invaders of the 14th century.

The exquisite mantapa between the Venugopala and Yoga Narasimha shrines will inspire with its magnificent 108 lathe turned pillars polished to perfection and symmetry.
