Summary edit

Description Introduced, warm season, biennial, hairy herb 1–2 m tall. Leaves form a rosette when young; lower leaves are obovate to elliptic, lamina 8–30 cm long and 3–10 cm wide, with margins toothed and sometimes sinuate; upper leaves are sessile and stem-clasping. Flowerheads are racemes 30–80 cm long. Flowers occur on short pedicels 2–5 mm long, and are 3–4 cm diam., yellow with a purple centre. Capsules are globose, 5–8 mm long and glandular-hairy. Flowering is from spring to autumn. A native of western Europe, it grows in disturbed areas, often along roadsides and near habitation.
