English: Verbeck and his disciples (owned by Mrs. Henry T. Terry, the daughter of Verbeck).
日本語:「長崎致遠館（フルベッキ及其門弟）
フルベッキは米国の宣教師なり、安政六年に選抜せられて長崎に来れり。たま〳〵大隈重信英語の必要を感じ、慶応三年長崎に学校を設くるに当り、氏は英学の教師としてことに尽力し、我国の開明に貢献せしこと多し、殊に当時海内騒然たりしにも拘はらず、一日も課業を廃せず、孜々として教鞭を執れり、其門生に多くの名士を出だせるも偶然ならずと云ふべし。既にして大隈の中央政府に入るに及び、致遠館は廃せられ、フルベッキは招かれて大学南校の教師となりたり。この写真は当時の撮影に係り、現公爵岩倉具定、石橋重朝、丹羽竜之助、中島永元、江副廉造、中野健明等此中に在り。
