Summary edit
DescriptionVerge Escapement Labelled.png |
English: Drawing of verge escapement, used in antique clocks and watches. Invented in the 13th century, it was the mechanism used in all clocks and watches for 400 years, until about 1660. The labeled parts are: (c) crown wheel, (v) verge, (p,q) pallets. An error in the drawing is that the crown wheel is shown with 12 teeth; verge escapements must actually have an odd number of teeth to function. Alterations: Removed pendulum crutch. Erased upper pallet, which was drawn incorrectly parallel to the other pallet, and redrew pallet in correct position. Removed caption and part labels, replaced labels with new colored ones. |
