Description

Newly germinated Sugar Pine Pinus lambertiana seedlings develop from seeds cached (probably by a jay or a squirrel) within the rotten/decaying residues of a fallen Giant Sequoia Sequoiadendron giganteum trunk - the decaying wood creates favourable conditions for the young offspring at first, though these are unlikely to reach light and survive to maturity.
