The shell cameo of Ariel flying on the back of a bat, probably by the studio of Tommaso Saulini ( 1784-1864 ), is based on an oïl painting by Joseph Severn ( On the bat's back I do fly, 1826 ). This painting is displayed in the Victoria and Albert Museum too. Victoria and Albert Museum, no M.274-1921 . ( Rooms 91-92. Photographs in these rooms are now allowed.) |
