Deutsch: Im achteckigen Brunnenbecken auf dem steinernen Sockel inmitten des Brunnenbeckens, das an den Ecken mit Wassertieren und Pflanzen verziert ist, sitzen vier bronzene Enten als Wasserspeier. Darüber steht die Skulptur einer Vierländerin in typischer Tracht mit Marktkorb unter einem neogotischem Dach mit vier Lüstern. Die Inschrift im Brunnen lautet: Am Markt lernt man die Leute kennen. Der Entwurf des Brunnen stammt von F. A. Meyer, die Skulptur stammt von dem Bildhauer Engelbert Pfeiffer. Der Brunnen wurde restauriert und gereinigt.

Deutsch: Der Brunnen wurde 1878 als Marktbrunnen auf dem Meßberg errichtet. Später auf dem Großmarkt an der Amsinckstraße und 1975 wurde er auf den Hopfenmarkt in der Hamburger Altstadt versetzt.
