Description
English: Sometime around 1875, the first white settlers arrived in what would become the town of Houghton, Washington. By 1880, a local resident had opened a grocery store on Lake Washington near the boat landing. For several years, Houghton was the commercial center of the Kirkland area. Between 1886 and 1913, the population grew from 200 to 300 residents.

This 1908 photo shows the town of Houghton, Washington with its grocery store and boat landing. Houghton is now part of Kirkland.
