Notes
  • Significance: This bridge is one of the longest on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, measuring almost 400 feet in length. It is of the trestle type, with timber supports, and carried the Washington County spur of the B.O. over Antietam Creek between Hagerstown and Harpers Ferry. This provided the farmers and manufacturers of Washington County with access to the railroad for transport of their crops and products. It demonstrates a high degree of engineering expertise, and is unique in that it is the only timber trestle bridge in Maryland, and possibly on the eastern U.S.
  • Survey number: HAER MD-37
  • Building/structure dates: 1869 Initial Construction
