Español: El sepulcro de Cristóbal Colón, conocido también como cenotafio o monumento, está colocado en el brazo sur del crucero de la catedral de Sevilla, (España). La realización de este monumento funerario le fue encargada al artista Arturo Mélida en 1891 con el propósito de que fuera colocado en la catedral de La Habana, donde por aquel entonces descansaban los restos del almirante, pero cuando la isla de Cuba se independizó de España en 1898 tras la Guerra hispano-estadounidense, los restos de Cristóbal Colón regresaron a España y fueron depositados en la catedral hispalense por voluntad del duque de Veragua, Cristóbal Colón de la Cerda, que era uno de los descendientes del célebre almirante. Y el sepulcro que contiene los restos mortales de Colón es portado a hombros por cuatro heraldos que lucen los emblemas heráldicos de los cuatro grandes reinos que conformaron España (Castilla, León, Navarra y Aragón.) |
