Портрет Дмитрия Прокофьевича Трощинского (1754–1829) выполнен в конце творческого пути Боровиковского. Трощинский был выходцем из семьи войскового писаря. Он получил образование в Киевской духовной академии. Заслужив доверие графа А.А. Безбородко, будущий министр юстиции начал восхождение по служебной лестнице. Несмотря на успешную карьеру, он сумел сохранить прямоту нрава и самостоятельность убеждений, близость к просвещенным либеральным кругам. Крупный государственный деятель, статс-секретарь Екатерины II, Трощинский был с почетом уволен Павлом I после награждения орденом Святого Александра Невского. Также он был кавалером орденов Святого Владимира II степени и Святой Анны II степени. Добросовестно и точно изображен крепкий, твердый духом старик, сидящий прямо, в торжественной, статичной позе, с упрямым и замкнутым выражением лица. Статуя богини правосудия Фемиды и том «Собрания законов» на столе – символы неусыпных трудов и неподкупной совести бывшего министра юстиции. |
