Summary
editDescriptionVolcanic Ash-Fall Layers Izu Oshima Japan.jpg |
English: Volcanic ash-fall layers on Izu Oshima volcano in Japan. The volcanic ash was erupted into the air by the volcano. The ash then fell back onto ground. The ash was deposited during Pleistocene and Holocene times on an uneven ground surface. The ash layers are parallel to the curvature of the underlying ground surface. The folds are known as drape folds. The ash layers have not been folded after deposition. (The road at this location is straight but the road appears curved in this photo, which is a distortion caused by a full-frame fisheye lens setting of the camera.) |
