Wǔ Zhū 五 珠 [Wu Chu], plain, smaller, curved wǔ 五 [wu] D, S114, H175/1 This piece has a smaller, curved wǔ 五 [wu] and was minted at the San Guan mint c113BC-5AD (attributed by Roger Doo [Dù Wéishàn杜 維 善]). Emporer Xuān 宣 [Hsüan] BC74 - 48 Wŭ Zhū 五 珠 [Wu Chu], bar above hole obverse D, S115, H178/1 Has a rounded early type zhū 珠 [Chu] and a thinner back rim, a characteristic of improved minting technique. Sold by Semans as S115y. 26.0 mm, 4.291 g. F. H R10. H 2.5 元 ($0.60). Obv.: inscribed Wŭ Zhū 五 珠 [Wu Chu] in seal script; thin outer rim, inner rim top only. Wŭ Zhū 五 珠 [Wu Chu], bar above hole obverse D, S115, H178/2 This coin has a small, curved wŭ 五 [wu] with a small extension of the top left horizontal stroke. Semans lost the attribution but stated it was from an intermediate ruler. This coin most resembles H178/2 and tentatively listed as an issue of Emporer Xuān 宣 [Hsüan]. Hua states H178/2 was the third official Wŭ Zhū 五 珠 [Wu Chu] issue of Emporer Xuān 宣 [Hsüan]. Sold by Semans as S115p. 25.4 mm, 3.506 g. VG. H R10. H 2.5 元 ($0.60). Obv.: inscribed Wŭ Zhū 五 珠 [Wu Chu] in seal script; thin outer rim, inner rim top only. Rev.: plain; medium outer rim, medium inner rim. Pd. $4.00, Scott Semans, 7 Jul 2002. Wŭ Zhū 五 珠 [Wu Chu], bar above hole obverse D, S115, H This coin has a raised edge on the upper side of the hole obverse. There are no contemporary records that state that this coin was issued by Emporer Xuān 宣 [Hsüan], but a mould dated 2nd year of Shén Jué 神 爵 [Shên Chüeh] (26 Jan 61 – 11 Feb 57BC [Moule, p. 6]) (60/59BC) confirms that this coin can be assigned to his reign (Schjöth, p. 9). Emporer Ai 哀 [Ai] BC6 - 1AD Wŭ Zhū 五 珠 [Wu Chu] D, S, H This coin marks the beginning of the thinner Eastern Han types. This variant is known from the tomb of Year 5 [BC1-1AD] Da Lida San in Guangdong (Semans, email, 4 Jul 2002). Sold by Semans as S178c. 25.6 mm, 2.528 g. VF. [Rarity and value undetermined.] Obv.: inscribed Wŭ Zhū 五 珠 [wu chu] in seal script; thin outer rims, no inner rim. Rev.: plain; thin outer rim, thin inner rim. Pd. $10.00, Scott Semans, 7 Jul 2002. Four large rays reverse , doubled of wǔ 五 [wu] obverse D—, S—, H— Has four large rays extending from the corners of the hole to the rim on the reverse. Broad curved Wǔ 五 [Wu]; doubled inscription D—, S—, H— This coin has a very broad, curved wǔ 五 [wu], a type known for Emporer Líng 靈 [Ling]. This specimen was issued by a provincial mint. Attributed by Roger Doo [Dù Wéishàn 杜 維 善]. The obverse rim and inscription are in low relief. On this piece the inscription is doubled with the doubling easily visible with the wǔ 五 [wu], but more subtle with the zhū 珠 [chu]. Sold by Semans as S178s. 25.6 mm, 2.770 g. VF.
