Der Baum ist nach Förster Otto Staudt benannt, der 1920–1936 das Dermbacher Revier leitete und sich um die Ausweisung des Eibenbestandes am Neuberg, heute bekannt als Ibengarten bei Glattbach, als Naturschutzgebiet verdient gemacht hat.
