| Description |
English: On behalf of WIPO, Director General Daren Tang (left) signed an agreement with the Societies' Council for the Collective Management of Performers' Rights (SCAPR) that gives WIPO Connect beneficiaries the possibility to better identify performers, on October 19, 2022. Jose Luis Sevillano (right), SCAPR Chairman of the Board, and Remy Desrosiers (center), SCAPR Managing Director, were present virtually to sign the agreement.
Under the agreement, Collective Management Organizations (CMOs) representing music rights owners and especially performers using WIPO Connect (WIPO's multi-rights back office software) will obtain access to IPD, the international performers' database managed by SCAPR. This will give these CMOs the possibility to retrieve IPNs (International Performer Numbers) – a unique identifier for performers allocated by SCAPR – directly in WIPO Connect, helping to better identify performers. In the longer term, this will contribute to improving international revenues for performers – both members of WIPO Connect beneficiary CMOs and foreign CMOs – with whom they have bilateral agreements.
