W.J. Kahle, brother of John Wesley Kahle, arrived in Seattle in 1883, and took up permanent residency there in 1890. He took over the Crescent Manufacturing Company in 1896, along with his brother. He served as secretary and treasurer, and his brother was president. Crescent Manufacturing was an exporter and importer of coffees, teas, and spices.
