English: This metal lathe is an old, but very reliable, piece of mechanical machinery. It is thought to have been installed in the production line at the Pythagoras-Drott engine factory in the early years of the 20th century. The lathe is used to produce flywheels for hot bulb engines. In the recording you can hear the lathe head slowly carving a cast iron flywheel. The lathe is connected to a belt drive in the ceiling. It is still functioning and resides in the same place where it once was installed over a century ago.
