  • Juli bis August 1939 Motorsportschule "Ruhrland" in Milspe, ostlich Wuppertal.
  • Dezember 1939 bis April 1940 Rekrutenzeit bei d. San.Ers.Abt.I in Tapiau, Ostpreussen.
  • Danach als Sanitäter zur 1./ Sanitäts-Kompanie 161 der 61. Infanterie-Division.
  • Mai 1940 mit dieser Einheit Westfeldzug in Holland, Belgien und Frankreich.
  • Juli 1940 bis Januar 1941 als Besatzungstruppe in der Bretagne, Frankreich.
  • Februar bis April 1941 Unteroffizier-Ausbildung in Gross Heydekrug, Ostpreussen.
  • Ab Juni 1941 als Sanitäts-Unteroffizier Feldzug am Nordabschnitt des Ostfront; zuerst im Baltikum, dann bis Oktober 1943 am Wolchow südostlich Leningrad.
  • Ab Oktober 1943 Medizinstudium bei einer Studenten-Kompanie in Königsberg.
  • Herbst 1944 wieder in Einsatz mit der 61.ID als Sanitäts-Feldwebel in Litauen.
