WALEED ABDALATI is a physical scientist at NASA’s Goddard Flight Space Center and manages the cryospheric sciences program, overseeing research on glaciers, ice sheets, sea ice and polar climate. He has held the position since 2000 and has led or participated in eight field expeditions to remote regions in Greenland and Canada. For the last four years Dr. Abdalati has served as program scientist for NASA's Ice Cloud and Land Elevation Satellite. In 1999 he received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Syracuse University, a master’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Colorado and doctorate degree in ocean and atmospheric sciences from the University of Colorado.
