English: Nearly 1,000 residents living near coal-fired power plants in North Carolina have been relying on bottled water since 2015 when they received notices from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality that their water contained high levels of contaminants such as chromium 6. The state didn't identify a source for the contaminants, but many residents believe the chemicals are coming from coal burning wastes at Duke Energy's nearby power plants. A Duke Energy spokeswoman said their power plants are not the source of well contamination. |
