„Das Wappen der Gemeinde Freistatt zeigt in Silber auf grünem Boden einen grünen, krumm gewachsenen Eichbaum, der mit 3 goldenen Bändern an einem links stehenden roten Pfahl befestigt ist. Die Farben der Gemeinde sind gold, rot und grün.“[1]
Wappenbegründung
Das Wappen ist ein Hinweis auf die für die Gemeinde Freistatt charakteristische Fürsorgearbeit. Das grüne Eichbäumchen steht in Gefahr, krumm zu wachsen. Es ist deshalb an einen geraden Pfahl festgebunden. Der die helfende Funktion ausübende Pfahl ist rot (rot als Farbe der aktiven Liebe). Die drei Bänder sind golden (Die Dreizahl könnte als Hinweis auf Glaube, Hoffnung und Liebe gedeutet werden; nur durch sie kann es geschehen, dass das auf Abwege Geratene wieder in geordnete Bahnen kommt). Auch die sichtbaren Reste von abgehauenen Ästen lassen sich im Blick auf die fürsorgerischen Aufgaben deuten.[1]
