Erklärung: Das Wappen zeigt in Silber einen grünen Wellensparren, zwischen den Schenkeln eine fünfblättrige rote Rose mit goldenem Butzen. Hamm liegt an einer Flußkrümmung, an einer Saarschleife, deshalb der Wellensparren, der eine Flußkrümmung symbolisiert. Solche Flußschleifen hießen im Mittelalter "hamm". Das Wappen ist also redend. Hamm gehörte zum kurtrierischen Amt Saarburg und zwar zur Pflege Irsch. Das Gemeindewappen von Irsch - vom lateinischen "ibiscus" = der Eibisch. eine Malvenart, die Stockreose - zeigt eine 5-blättrige rote Rose; deshalb ist die Rose in das Gemeindewappen Hamm übernommen worden.
