Summary edit
DescriptionWarley Place Nature Reserve, Great Warley - geograph.org.uk - 50673.jpg |
English: Warley Place Nature Reserve, Great Warley. Warley Place was originally established by the diarist John Evelyn in the 1640s and consisted of a large house and grounds. It became the foremost garden of the late Victorian/Edwardian period due to the efforts of Ellen Willmott. She collected plants on her travels and at one time 140 gardeners were employed to maintain the ground. Little of the house or gardens remain, but the site is now run by Essex Wildlife Trust as a nature reserve. |
