Description

The Jefferson Memorial, with crowds out to see the cherry blossoms by the Tidal Basin. The Jefferson Memorial was begun in 1939 and dedicated in 1943. A statue of Thomas Jefferson was added in 1947.

The first Japanese cherry trees were planted in 1912, as a gift from the city of Tokyo. Many more have been planted in later years.
