Summary edit

Description
English: Water extraction plant There are several sites like this on Dartmoor, built in the 1960's to extract drinking water from the ground. The project was not as successful as expected, because the volumes extracted were smaller and the water had to be aerated to release radioactivity coming from the granite, in the form of radon gas. However, they are still in use; a couple of days after this photograph was taken, men came to work on the installation.
