| Description | Though the town declined after 1914, Webster still saw some new construction in the following decades, as the land was cheap, salvaged building materials were plentiful, it sat along a state highway, and it had a large, well-furnished schoolhouse. This charming Craftsman-Style front-gable bungalow dates to the 1920s or 1930s, well into the time period after the town’s decline following the removal of the county seat designation in favor of nearby Sylva, and sits along Webster Road in what used to be the center of town. The house, which has been renovated several times, is a sign that life and new construction still happened in the town during the time in which it was not an incorporated town, and is one of several homes from the time period, many of which were likely built with at least some building materials salvaged from the old buildings that once made up the downtown area. |
