Description
English: A London Underground S Stock train arrives at West Brompton, operating a District Line service from Wimbledon to Edgware Road. London Underground ordered these trains in 2009 to replace all of its older subsurface trains. These trains offer various improvements over the trains they were ordered to replace. They are the first trains on the Metropolitan Line with automated announcements and the first on the Metropolitan, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines (and the Edgware Road branch of the District Line) with Dot Matrix Indicators (DMIs). They have lower floors than the trains they were ordered to replace, making them more easily accessible for disabled people. It is possible to change carriages even when the train is moving. They are also the first trains on the network with air-conditioning.
