English: West Coast Main Line - Great Train Robbery site. This is the view "up" the West Coast Main Line i.e. looking towards London. The view is taken from a bridge which carries a footpath over the line between Grove and Ledburn. It was very near here at Sears Crossing approximately where the further little shed can be seen that the first stage of the Great Train Robbery of August 8th 1963 took place. A signal was tampered with so that it shone red (note there is a current signal gantry at SP9157221352 which may well be in the exact spot). The train stopped at the signal and the robbers entered the train and forced the driver to drive the train a little way to Bridego Bridge where they offloaded the sacks of used bank notes and made their getaway.
