Description
English: The remains of an opencast iron-stone mine that has exposed the structure of the Slitt lead vein. The vein is largely made up of quartz with some fluorspar and galena (lead-ore) in the middle. The lead ore was mined before the vein was exposed, approached from a level to the west. The Slitt Vein is the longest vein in the North Pennines, some 13 miles long.
