English: West Summit Lock No 37, Rochdale Canal This lock is, as its name suggests, at the Lancashire end of the short summit pound of this canal, but South Summit lock might be a better name, as the pound runs almost due north-south, (in fact Long Lees Lock No 36 at the other end of the pound, the Yorkshire end, is not only in Lancashire but is slightly further west than this one. This peculiarity is also shared by the railway tunnel). |
