Description
English:

This view of the west side of Third Avenue, between Union Street and Pike Street in downtown Seattle, features a three story building housing The Manhattan, a rooming house at 1423 1/3 Third Avenue. The building was built in 1902 by R.H. Boyle and Charles Power. Designed for hotel purposes, it was one of the earliest commercial buildings designed by John Graham, Sr. It was demolished in 1950 for the current building on the site, originally a storage annex to the adjoining Kress Building and now serving as the main entrance to the T.J. Maxx store. This view also includes Consolidated Fuel Company at 1413 Third Avenue and William and Margaret Hewitt's Restaurant at 1425 Third Avenue.
