Summary
editDescriptionWestern Hotel, 1st Avenue, Seattle.png |
English: The Western Hotel at 2113 1st Avenue in Belltown, Seattle, Washington. Designed by Elmer Fisher as a hotel for milliner Margaret D. Pease on property just south of her own home, it was built in 1889 during Fisher's most prolific year and was one of the few wood frame commercial buildings he designed. Originally opened as the Pease House, it was later known as the Western Hotel and finally the Twins. In late 1966 the hotel was one of many along First Avenue declared a nuisance and shuttered. The top two floors were soon removed and any trace of the building's original architecture has been lost. The remaining ground floor, historically occupied by second hand shops for most of the 20th century and Continental Furniture from 1946 until the late 2000s, is currently occupied by a Mud Bay pet store. The neighboring Schillestad Building (left, 1907) and Colsky Building (right, 1926) still exist and look much the same. |
