Summary edit

Description
English: The Rio Grande Rift is a large, north-south trending valley that extends from Colorado to New Mexico to Mexico. It started forming during the Tertiary by tectonic extension, which resulted in the development of a large graben. The rift valley actually consists of a series of faulted half-grabens. Valley fills include terrestrial sediments and lava flows.

Locality: western side of the Rio Grande Rift Valley, as seen from Interstate 25, near the town of Radium Springs, southern New Mexico, USA
