DescriptionWeymouth town and harbour, and Chesil Beach - geograph.org.uk - 1393420.jpg |
English: Weymouth town and harbour, and Chesil Beach Photographed from New Ground, Portland. On the left the 18 miles of Chesil beach fade into the haze. Trapped behind that is the Fleet lake. A causeway and bridge then carry the road between Portland and the town of Weymouth, which dominates the mainland. The Portland side of the bay is dominated by the yachting facilities of Osprey Quay, the base for the sailing events at the 2012 Olympics, which will be competed for in the bay. The Portland harbour walls are evident but it is not clear that these are themselves enclosed in the huge Weymouth harbour walls, as these are out of shot to the right (east).
At last I get to use the item at the top of the geographical category list. |
